Meet our Team

Liz Gallo, CEO

Liz has taught technology and engineering education for over a decade in all types of schools around the world; focusing on helping students learn how to solve problems and understand the human-made world. Since the beginning of her career, Liz has taught STEM project-based learning and design thinking.

Now, through her company, WhyMaker, she is on a mission to help teachers teach students in meaningful and authentic ways. As President of the NYS Technology & Engineering Educators Association, she brought together thousands of STEM teachers and motivated them to work together and grow STEM education in NYS.

Liz believes that through transdisciplinary design thinking and project-based learning, students fall in love with the process of solving problems and this will help them be successful in whatever they do in the future.

Lisa Pitura, Operations Manager

Lisa began her career as an entrepreneur, operating her own business for a few years before pivoting into marketing and communications management. After over a decade in the public and private sectors, life led her to manage boutique hotels in remote locations of Central America, and then to become a director of a small startup.

Lisa has a keen eye for detail and loves deadlines, organization, and efficiency. She’s a big-picture problem solver who is dedicated to helping people reach their goals and succeed. She is also a talented project manager, copy editor, and strategist.

Lisa is excited to be part of a team that is helping kids discover their creativity and igniting their passion for learning and creating while preparing them for success in our ever-changing world.

Justine Riley, Marketing Manager

Justine is obsessed with anything that falls under the umbrella of marketing.

Trained in Graphic & UX Design, she found herself working for an agency that required her to collaborate one-on-one with small business owners designing websites and optimizing their sites for digital marketing. And with design still at the forefront of everything she does, when it comes to her career, she’s since fully leaned into digital marketing.

From her UX background, she’s spent a lot of time in the realm of design thinking. She’s excited to apply this experience to WhyMaker & help children become autonomous problem solvers through Maker Education!

When she’s not upping her digital skills, you can find her playing tennis, reading, or indulging in her (not-so) guilty pleasure of reality television.

Krista Beauchesne, Administrative Assistant

Krista is Liz’s assistant. Krista helps with all things WhyMaker and makes sure the day-to-day operations run smoothly.

With 10 years of experience working with special needs children and in her later years as an Educational Assistant, Krista brings her passion for helping others to the virtual world and helping Liz check things off her to-do list.

Krista loves working at WhyMaker because it allows her to be part of a team that is paving the way for student success. Allowing kids to think outside the box and become design thinkers, creative makers and flexible problem solvers ready for our ever-changing society.

When not working, Krista can be found outside with her pup or working on the next DIY project.
