NYS Clean Energy Educator Institute Will Help Educators Lead the Way to a Sustainable Future
New York State - WhyMaker is excited to announce the New York State (NYS) Clean Energy Educator Institute taking place this summer. These four-day institutes will offer educators the opportunity to become clean energy leaders in schools and communities. Educators will learn about NYS Clean Energy goals including the future of building decarbonization, offshore wind, solar power, smart grids, electric vehicles, and electricity distribution.
Empowering educators with factual information about clean energy will help students in New York become energy literate. As the State transitions to clean energy, our future is dependent on our children knowing how our energy systems work and their awareness of future career opportunities in clean energy.
Sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Clean Energy Educator Institute is open to all certified NYS educators who are currently teaching grades 4-12 for the upcoming school year. Those teaching in disadvantaged communities will be given first priority. The first two institutes will take place at Hofstra University on Long Island from July 17-20, and Capital Region BOCES in Albany from July 24-27. Additional 4-day institutes and 1-day workshops will continue next summer and throughout the school year, respectively, in different locations around NYS.
During the institutes, educators will gain real-world knowledge by hearing from clean energy professionals and touring a local clean energy facility. They will leave with activities and resources to use in their classrooms and they will feel confident as leaders in the clean energy space. Educators will also receive a NYS Clean Energy Expert Badge, CTLE credits, and physical materials to take back to their schools.
